It’s been a few days when PM Narendra Modi called upon the nation to eliminate the use of single use plastic in his Independence Day speech, Indian Railways has decided to impose a ban on single use plastic within its premises effectively from 2nd October.

Joining in the hands, Jaipur Railway station will also be free from the single use plastic from 2nd October. Authorities at the railway station have been directed by the Railway Board to install plastic bottle crushing machine at the premises.

The board has also asked catering service provider IRCTC to implement the practice of returning the plastic bottles after use by the passengers. Railways employees have also been asked to restrict the use of plastic and encouraged to reduce, reuse and refuse the plastic products instead using reusable products.

The dream of making India a plastic free country is not so far with having being followed green initiatives like this. While various institutions are doing their part, we can also take the responsibility to do our bit to make our environment plastic free which is the biggest problem the world is facing today.
