Jaipur has also been included in the government’s initiative of making the India pollution free under the scheme of Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles or FAME 2.
Soon Jaipur will be free from polluting city buses and that will be replaced with the electric buses. There will be 50 electric buses allocated to Rajasthan Transportation to run between Jaipur to Delhi. However, Rajasthan government will not be purchasing these vehicles instead they will be issuing tenders to get them on rental basis.
Rajasthan will get the buses with 50% subsidy. Though Roadways department and JCTSL applied for 300 buses but for now 150 buses have been allocated so far. Out of which 100 buses have been allocated to JCTSL and remaining 50 electric buses have been allocated to roadways to run and from Delhi. Now JCTSL and roadways will be issuing tenders for purchase of the vehicles.
In next 5 to 6 months we will be able to see the buses running on the roads of Jaipur. This is the first time an electric vehicle has been included in the fleet of public transportation vehicles. Jaipur will feel much safer travelling in the fleet of electric buses as compared to the existing low floor cases.
NGT has included Jaipur in the list of polluted cities which have a major contribution from the low floor buses which will reduce to severe extent after including the electric buses in the public transportation by Jaipur. In context of roadways, distance between Jaipur and Delhi is approx. 275 kms for which the department is also planning to install multiple charging stations in between. The difference in fares as compared to current will not be much, as per the sources. Though a single charge is claimed to cover 300 kms.
It will be exciting to see that how quickly the scheme is put on the streets.
