The Pink City, Jaipur is the proud owner of some of the most beautiful temples in India and Birla Temple is the best example of it. Birla Temple is a famous architectural wonder of the Pink City. Also known as Laxmi Narayan Mandir, it is specially dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi and yet another attraction of Jaipur.
History – Jaipur is popular all over in the world for its historic monuments, vibrant culture and royal heritage. It also owns some of the best temples in our country. Birla temple is also one of these. The construction of the temple took place in the year 1988 by B. M Birla foundation. Founders of the temple, Birlas have built many other popular temples in India. According to popular belief, Birla Mandir is situated on the area that was offered to Birla family by the King, for a token total of one rupee.
The temple is mainly dedicated to Hindu God Lord Vishnu who is considered to be the moderator and Goddess lakshmi who is the Goddess of wealth and good luck and that’s the reason the temple is also popular as Lakshmi Narayan Temple.
Architecture Design – The sanctuary is devoted to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Unlike other traditional Hindu temples, Birla Mandir is built up with beautiful white marble along with the stylish modern approach. The temple contains three domes which denote the three religion of India. One can find here the huge idols of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, and some idols of other Hindu Gods and Goddess too. Idol of Lord Vishnu is carved out of a single piece of stone.
The temple has amazing interiors which are decorated with stunning mythological paintings of several Hindu deities. A large marble console describes all mythological events. The exterior of the temple is also eye catching as the stairs of the temple are also constructed with beautiful marble. The temple is the home of many sculptures and pictures of different different deities. All these things add different beauty to this temple. Various images of great hero, philosophers like the Christ, Buddha, Zathustra are also present here.
A work of art, this temple truly represents architectural beauty, in a modern form. The temple also contains a museum where all ancestral belongings of the Birla family are preserved. The museum is open to all the tourists from 8.00 am to 12.00 pm during the day and then from 4.00 to 8.00 pm during evenings. The beautiful Birla temple is also surrounded by lush green trees which simply add to the divine feeling of the temple. The temple is flooded by by devotees throughout the day but the place is really crowded during the festive season.
