Jal Mahal Or Water Palace situated in the middle of beautiful Man Sagar Lake

Jaipur is famous all over the world for its beautifully built historical palaces and monuments which adds charm to it. One such attraction of Jaipur is the Jal Mahal which is situated in the middle of beautiful Man Sagar Lake. The eye catching architecture of this palace fascinates a large number of visitors from all over the world

History – This beautiful Jal Mahal was constructed by the King of Amer in the Man Sagar lake. This lake was a water reservoir which was constructed to sort out the drought problem in the state. It helped to solve the water issues and offered facilities throughout the year. Later on, in the 18th century, Maharaja Jai Singh II restored this palace to its original state. It was the same time when the popular attractions of Jaipur like Nahargarh, Jaigarh and Amer fort were constructed. The amazing garden Kanak Vrindavan Valley was also constructed during the same phase. During this time duration, Rajputana architectural style obtained the stunning monuments and all this credit goes to Maharaja Jai Singh II.

This palace was constructed as a pleasure place and royal family used it for royal duck shooting parties. Royal people were invited to this stunning palace by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh.

Building Design – The beautiful Jal Mahal represents the use of Mughal and Rajputana architecture style. The Jal Mahal was developed from beautiful pink sandstone and follows the unique Rajput symmetrical style which is found all around of Rajasthan. It is a gorgeous five-storeyed building out of which only the top floor is completely visible while the other four floors are submerged in the water of the lake.

The gracefully decorated hallways and grand chambers on the first floor welcome the tourists before they climb upstairs to witness the most beautiful place of Jal Mahal. The walls and roofs of the palace narrate the stories of the Rajput kings with the helps of beautiful paintings.

A rectangular Chhatri on the roof is done in Bengali-like architecture and looks simply outstanding. There are some other semi octagonal Chhatris too, on the corners which are constructed with elegant cupolas. The most beautiful attraction of the palace is the lavish, aromatic garden, Chameli Bagh. This beautiful garden is situated on the top floor. This garden has lovely with marbled passages for the tourists to walk around and gracefully carved platforms where tourists can take rest and enjoy the beauty of the place. The Chameli Bagh garden has four quadrants which house beautiful flower-beds having exotic flowers. Lovely water cascades under the walls of the flower-bed and after combining it with the fountains, tourists feel the most eye catching fresh look to the garden.

There is an octagonal marbled platform too in the center which is used to perform beautiful arts under the open sky. The seating capacity of this place is almost 250 guests. Chameli Bagh contains approx 150 varieties of trees and shrubs, such as ground covers, ornamental plants, aravalli plants, a huge variety of white flowers like Juhi, Chameli, Mogra and Champa, and a few Peepal and Bargad trees which are more than a century old.

The sparkling water of the lake reflects the lovely carvings and makes it an amazing scene one could ever longed for. The palace also houses the Gulabi Tibari, the Badal Mahal, the Anand Mahal Tibari and the Raas Niwas Tibari.

In the past a couple of years, several restoration efforts have been put to this palace by the Rajasthan Government. The walls of the palace are renovated and pillars are rebuilt so that more paintings about the heritage of the Rajputs could be crafted on them. The government is also planning to open craft bazaars, a convention center, luxury hotels and several food-cum-beverage outlets so that the tourists can feel more convenient.
